Loy Krathong Festival
The festival of Loy Krathing will be held Nov 10 from 04.00 pm to 08.00 pm at Wat Wimuttayaram Buddhist Temple of Louisiana, 1601 Stanton Road, New Orleans, LA 70131.
The word “Loy” means a bowl or container, usually made of banana leaf. “Loy Krathong”, therefore is the floating of an illuminated leaf bowl. The krathong decorated with flowers, usually contain a candle, incense sticks, sand and sometime coins. In celebrations of Loy Krathong, people light candles, offer thanks and make a wish. They are set afloat in rivers and canals.
Kathina Ceremony
The Thai Kathina ceremony will be held Nov 11 from 10.00 am to 06.00 pm. at Wat Wimuttayaram Buddhist Temple of Louisiana, 1601 Stanton Road, New Orleans, LA 70131.
New robes will be presented to monks who have served three months at the temple. The ceremony includes religious services, followed by food and the robe presentation. Besides, the religious ceremony, there are many activities opened for public including shows of traditional Thai and other countries dances and Thai songs, Thai foods and drinks for sale, and kid’s activities.
