Asian Children's Holidays Party

Time certainly flies when you're having fun!! The party was filled with children laughing and parents smiling. There were over 50 volunteers to make sure everything ran smoothly. Thank you to the volunteers, which includes the Chinese School, Loyola Asian Student Organization, AASIA, the Liu Institute International , students from McMain high school, New Orleans Circus Art, John Hoa for donating the lanterns and many wonderful APAS members!!! APAS would also like to thank the Jazz and Heritage Foundation for partially funding the event in making it possible to include the Loy Kratong (Floating Lotus) festival into the day. Jenjira and Tania (her daughter) are much appreciated for showing the children how to make the floating lotus.

We had 32 families attended the event that totaled over 80 kids and grownups. The weather was perfect and the performances were wonderful as you'll see in the pictures via the links below. We walked from the Danna Center to a fountain at Audubon park on the St. Charles side where the children got to make a wish and release their Kra tongs in the water. Please enjoy the pictures and we hope you can join us next year!!!

APAS Stuffing Party for the Homeless

On Dec 2, many APAS members got together and made gift packets for the homeless. We were efficient and completed all the bags in record time. APAS would like to thank the International Wholesale Club for letting us purchase items at an affordable amount, Uyen Pham, Crown Products, Elena and Brenda Cho for sponsoring some items, The Bag Lady for donating some scarves, gloves and hats and John Hoa for donating blankets. With their support and some APAS funds, we made over 100 bags and had extra items to hand out. The following is a list of items in the bags:

  • Fleece gloves
  • Knitted caps (some scarfs)
  • Toothbrush
  • Toothpaste
  • Purell hand sanitizer
  • Anti-bacterial soap
  • A pack of gum
  • Bandaids
  • Comb or pick
  • Small tube of Halls
  • Socks
  • Bottled water

On Dec. 7, many of us went to areas under the Claiborne bridge and Duncan Plaza and handed out the gift packets and blankets. There were many thanks and appreciation on APAS efforts to help this population.
